Saturday March 15 will go down in history as a memorable day for Sport Club Corinthians Paulista as players from the Timao made it onto the hallowed turf of the new Arena Corinthians for the first time. It was only a training session but it marked a crucial landmark in the construction of the 48,000-seat stadium that will be home to Corinthians after the World Cup ends in July.

"This is a historic moment, in 20, 30 years, Corinthians fans are going to feel so proud," said Andres Sanchez, the former president of the club and the man responsible for overseeing the stadium's construction. "I'm speechless. This is a dream come true for Corinthianos."

The players got to know the stadium Saturday morning during a tour and training session ahead of Sunday night's match at Penapolense. The session was not open to the public as the stadium is still being finished up ahead of the scheduled delivery on April 15. But press and some construction workers were in the ground to see the players put through their paces. Two workers were given the chance to take a penalty against keeper Cassio and Jadson had the honour of scoring the first goal in the training game that took place.

"It's history! It's so emotional," said Edu Gaspar, Corinthian's Director of Football. "It's so satisfying to be here on such a historic day for the club. This is going to be our home, and we are going to work as hard as possible to ensure it is a place where many celebrations take place."

"I am not going to deny it, since I hung up my boots I've rarely felt the desire to get out there on the pitch again," Gaspar said. "Lots of players ask me that but I always say I've turned the page. But today, even though it was just a training session, was one of those days."
