Corinthians got back to winning ways on Wednesday, as Mano Menezes' side defeated Oeste in the Benedito Teixeira stadium in São José do Rio Preto. With two beautiful goals from Romarinho and Jadson, Corinthians came from behind and put an end to a difficult run of form in the Paulista State Championship.

The opening stages of the match were a struggle and the Timao were one down in just two minutes. After a mix-up inside the area, the ball fell kindly for Lelê who opened the scoring for Oeste.

Corinthians struggled to cope with Oeste's attacking threat and had to rethink their strategy. The team began exchanging more passes in midfield to try and create openings and Jadson, making his second appearance for the club after signing from São Paulo, started to take control of the match.

In 28 minutes, he set up the equalising goal, threading a lovely pass through to Romarinho, who beat his marker Fernandinho before unleashing an excellent shot from outside the area that flew into the top corner of the net.

Just a minute later, Corinthians had a good chance to take the lead when Jadson played Paulo Guerrero clean through on goal, but Oeste's goalkeeper Fernando Leal did well to block the Peruvian striker's shot.

With Jadson in inspired form, it was only a matter of time until Corinthians equalised and when the goal did come the playmaker deservedly got it himself. After pouncing on a mistake by Oeste defender Ligger, he hit a beautiful shot from outside the area which, just as Romarinho's did 13 minutes before, flew into the top corner of Leal's goal.

Second half

The second half began much like the first ended, with Corinthians threatening to score. After more good work from Jadson, Guerrero saw a header go wide.

That proved to rouse Oeste and they came close with a João Denoni shot after 55 minutes. The home side came more into the game and almost grabbed an equaliser in the 73rd minute. Oeste forward Sassá spotted Cassio off his line and very nearly scored with a header. However, centre-back Felipe was there to clear the ball off the line.

Corinthians had a good chance to increase their lead on 80 minutes when Romarinho's replacement Paulinho, a product of Corinthians' youth system, caught Oeste's defence off guard by trying a dangerous shot from the edge of the area. The ball hit the post and went out for a goal-kick, but his technique and audacity delighted the Corinthians fans in the stadium.

Corinthians continued to look for a third goal, but it wasn't to be and the match finished 2x1 in São José do Rio Preto, giving Corinthians an important victory.

Their next match will be on Saturday evening, when they take on Rio Claro at the Pacaembu stadium
