The Timão are getting more and more accustomed to their new home at the Arena Corinthians and notched up yet another win there in their 14th home match on Saturday with a 3-0 win over Sport that included goals from Paolo Guerrero and Luciano, the two highest goalscorers at the new ground.

Corinthians had their opponents on the back foot right from the kick off. Guerrero spun around the Sport defence in the 7th minute but his shot went over. Six minutes after that, Fagner and Renato Augusto did some nice work on the right and fed the Peruvian striker but he was off balance and fired over.

The way Corinthians were pressuring the visitors high up the field it seemed like a goal was inevitable and it was. After 24 minutes, Anderson Martins rose to meet a corner kick from Renato Augusto and head powerfully home.

That goal enabled Corinthians to take their foot off the accelerator but they kept creating chances. Renato Augusto and Fábio Santos had good opportunities before Elias almost got a second in the 40th minute when he forced Magrao to palm away his deft touch after taking a nice pass from Guerrero.

The second half started at a slower pace but Corinthians grew as the half went on and created three chances between the 63rd and 65th minute. Guerrero, Fábio Santos and Luciano – who had just come on in place of Malcom – all gave Sport ample warning that another goal was on the way.

And sure enough it came and once again Guerrero was involved. With 72 minutes gone, Renato Augusto worked a one-two with Elias and sent an inviting low cross into the box. The ball evaded everyone except Guerrero, who was free to make it 2-0 with his sixth goal at the Arena Corinthians.

That put a seal on the match as Sport did not look dangerous. But Corinthians were not finished and Mano Menezes’ team got a third in injury time when Luciano fired home from the edge of the box.
