Corinthians went to Coritiba on Sunday and came away with a point in a hard-fought 0-0 draw.

The first half was a tight affair and it was the home side who had the first chance when Alex came close with a free kick after just three minutes. Corinthians threatened in 27 minutes but Coritiba goalkeeper Vanderlei saved a Petros shot from outside the box.

The visitors almost took the lead on half time but Vanderlei was once again on form to stop a Jadson free kick.

The second half was much the same as the first with neither side creating many clear-cut chances.

Jadson almost got on the end of a Fagner cross in 54 minutes and Romarinho put a chance over two minutes later after doing well to control a pass from Cleber.

But neither side could break the deadlock and so the draw leaves Corinthians in second place with 24 points behind leader Cruzeiro.

The Timao’s next league game is on Sunday against Santos at the Vila Belmiro.
On Wednesday they go to Bahia for the second leg of their third-round Brazilian Cup tie. Corinthians won the first leg 3-0.
