The floodlights came on at the Corinthians Arena for the first time this weekend and it was a successful try out for the stadium that will host the opening match of the 2014 World Cup.

A total of 212 floodlights along the east and west stands - each of which has a capacity of 2000 watts - were turned on Friday night.

The 140 lights on the north and south stands will be installed as soon as the structures there are in place.

Technicians from Odebrecht Infraestrutura involved in completing the arena say the lighting system will be among the world's most modern and efficient.
